Reverend Kevin E. Donalson Sr.

Rev. Kevin E. Donalson Sr. was born on March 24, 1971 to Ms. Elmer D. Rogers in Altus, Oklahoma while she was visiting a relative. She soon returned home to Houston, Texas where Rev. Donalson was raised.

At an early age, Reverend Donalson joined the Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the direction of the late Reverend Willie Powell, Pastor. As a young person at Lilly Grove, Reverend Donalson was an active member of the church. Reverend Donalson is a product of the public schools of Houston, Texas. He graduated in 1989 from Stratford High School.

Upon graduation from High School, he attended the historic Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. While at Morehouse, Reverend Donalson served as a member of: the Football Team, MLK Chapel Assistants, STRIPES, Student’s for African-American Empowerment (SAAE), and Maroon Tiger Newspaper (Sports Editor). Reverend Donalson accepted the call to preach his junior year at Morehouse. He was licensed to preach at the Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Terry K. Anderson, Pastor. In May 1994, he graduated with a degree in Sociology from Morehouse College.

His next stop was the Andover Newton Theological School in Boston, Massachusetts for one year. While in Boston, he served at the Southern Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend Carlton L. Jones, Pastor. Reverend Donalson was ordained by the Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in 1995. He later transferred to the Howard University School of Divinity, where he was active in many different campus organizations. In May 1998, he graduated with honors from the Howard University School of Divinity with a Master of Divinity Degree. He went to work on Capitol Hill in the office of Congressman Chakka Fattah of Pennsylvania.

On April 19, 1999, Reverend Donalson was elected the Pastor of the New Sunlight Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA. In Reverend Donalson’s 10 years as Pastor of New Sunlight, the church grew spiritually, numerically and financially. Some of his accomplishments at New Sunlight were: paying off church mortgage, purchase of Agape House, organization of a Young Adult Ministry, purchase of additional property and many other great things.

Some of Reverend Donalson’s denominational activities are: President, Baptist Ministers Union of Lake Charles and Vicinity; General Secretary and Board of Director member, 7th District Missionary Baptist Association, Lecturer, Louisiana Baptist State Laymen. Reverend Donalson is also an Alum of the Lott Carey Baptist Convention Pastoral Excellence Program.

In his spare time, Reverend Donalson likes to golf, fish, read, and watch any and every type of sport. He is a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Reverend Donalson is married to the former Kimberly Williams of Springfield, Virginia. They have two children, Kyndall (9) and Kevin Jr. (6).

Reverend Kevin E. Donalson Sr. has a passion for preaching and teaching God’s word. Like Paul, his mantra is, “I preach Christ and Him crucified”.
